New stock
Started today building a new stock for a 100year old Marlin 1892. Not very big stock, but not easy for me. Using this piece of AAA Claro, wish me luck. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1042913aa7.jpg

Still looking clunky, but made some progress today, buttplate semi inletted, and some general shaping. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3aa7c2a863.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...822557d03b.jpg

Nice piece of wood. What are you going to use to fill in the knotholes?

Save some of the sanding dust and mix it with an epoxy.

A little more done, hey look there are bullet holes in my pattern. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c0ed275694.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c8f156c194.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7b0136e932.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f298e66c7f.jpg

This is going to be a really cool one:bthumb:
Love the patina on the octagonal barrel. Any chance of seeing the shootin' iron bits? Love that pattern paper! Waste not want not. |
That barrel is not the one, but it is the same size this is the rifle. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...76ee2ba18c.jpg

Much progress on the forearm yesterday and today, after a weekend match that scored 27. Rifle did its part, but the driver had much trouble with the easiest animal;pigs. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9efd65c0ba.jpg

Looks like nice quarter sawn walnut with some very nice curl figure, perfect for a slender straight grip stock. Should really shimmer once you have a finish on it, yet have strength in the grip.
Perfect choice in my opinion. Glen |
