I have one too, and it is a good shooter, especially with a red dot on it. :)

Nice Cadets.:bthumb: They are getting harder to find as time goes by.

how do you mount a red dot on one of these non target models? is that "vent rib" actually a RAIL??

Weigand used to carry a mount for this gun. I bought mine from them in 1997 and still use it today. Love shooting my Colt with an Springfield M6 red dot.

Great gun! Now if I could only find one of the original target model conversion kits...

I bought it from an estate sale, it came with a pretty blue Aimpoint mounted on either B-Square or Weigand rail. :)

I've seen one, not in that nice shape, almost bought it. If it had looked that good, it would have come home with me.

Nice pistol, ammoyankee! :t

i am STILL confused

how does a rail fasten to the pistol, does it have to be drilled/tapped, etc? so i guess the vent rib on top isnt set up for a red dot or scope to CLAMP on?

The barrel is drilled and tapped to mount the factory plastic sight ribl. The replacement rail mounts to these holes and overhangs the slide by quite a bit. I don't have it mounted up right now, or I would take a pic. I wanted to see how it shot with iron sights, so I bought the plastic front sight assembly and screws from Numrich. I also bought a new striker and spring, just in case, because these would likely be the higher wear items. The pistol was shot very little, and the only marks on it were from the cheap plastic box rubbing on the bead blasted finish. I scored big time on mags, I happened across some Tactical site in NV a few years ago, and bought ten new in the package factory mags for $14 each. Haven't seen any since. :)

NOW it makes sense, so the hard part is finding the rail to go on and replace the factory rib. i wonder if any are still available!? the search begins.:eek:

If you strike out, there is a fellow that is on the Browning forum that I bought a rail for a Buck Mark that he made. It is real nice machine work, which would be an option.

Yes these rails are now harder to find than the pistols. If you look back through the Cadet posts you will find there was a still a B square model listed on a website but it is questionable whether it was actually still available. You can measure the barrel diameter to get the radius and can probably find a Weaver rail that will match it pretty close. Then transfer the holes from the vent rib to the rail and drill a couple of new holes. Was close to buying one of the Cadets about a year and a half ago that also came with the target barrel. IIRC it went for $600 + on Gunbroker. They will reportedly accept the blued Woodsman magazines if you find them easier or cheaper to obtain.
