Have had some that I had to dig out of chamber with pocket knife in various brands. Some pull out and are dropped back in front of bolt without getting clearance to pick up the next round. I know that standard velocity is recommended in HS pistols but itís a pain with so many jams.
I wiped the bore this afternoon and got out the bore scope to inspect chamber. All bluing still remains in bore verifying low round count. I did find the chamber to be rough with cross hatch scratches the length of chamber, lead looks great. A dry fire ping on edge of chamber was scraped clean with the blade of my pen knife.

Breech end of chamber measures .231 so made a delrin chamber lap on the lathe that tapers from .200 on lead end to .232 an 1-1/4Ē long. Chamber has now been polished with 400grit silicon carbide lapidary powder in a slurry of marvel mystery oil using drill. Much smoother now will see if that helps.

Had similar problems last week in my normally dependable Ruger Mark II. It was chilly/windy and the wax build-up inside the front of the magazines were preventing the rounds from moving up quickly like they should. Cleaned mags solved the problems.

Yeah this I believe is just chamber polishing with a pretty rough chamber reaming job. Finished off last night with a felt pellet in the drill soaked with oil and compound. Also polished feed ramp just in case. Will try again this afternoon as last resort could try taking a coil off the recoil spring I suppose.
Likely why a forty year old pistol never saw any use, it jammed.

A Mark II 5” bull barrel was my first pistol purchase when I come of age and first year production. Never jammed once but accuracy wasn’t all that great even scoped off the bench. Sent it down the road with the purchase of a SW model 48 with 8-3/8” barrel. Found the S&W price tag in a pistol case the other day I traded even up for the Mk II and S&W was $189. Still think I did alright.

AGE: 58
LOCATION: Va Beach
GUN: Ruger Mark II, stock
AMMO: Federal bulk, 36gr CPHP
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 41, 43, 44, 35, 38

NOTES: I was an idiot today, and payed the price. I was all over with initial sighters and practice. Got things dialed in somewhat, and set up targets for score. Three targets in, I already had it in my head that my efforts were sucking, so I rushed the last two targets.

I had a better score going, got in my own head, and screwed it up. I'll probably reshoot this distance this month. I guess I'm so used to tighter groups and scores at 10 yards, and let it get to me. <img src="https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/images/smilies/banghead3.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Banghead3" class="inlineimg" />

Shook it off with some 10 yard practice, and some rapid and practice at 15 after shooting the score. Oh well, things happen.

Looks like you had a great day for outdoor shooting Dennis. I miss being able to shoot outdoors, but locally an indoor range is the only time saving option I really have.

You've been shooting plenty of targets. I'm glad you set this thing up to get all of us shooting handguns more! :bthumb:

Thanks, Bob. The only way it could be better is if it was my own back yard, but it's close.

10 Yds Open Sights

Received a new 5-1/2" barrel for my Smith & Wesson model 41. Came with a nice set of sights so had to go to the local Nat'l Forest canyon and sight it in. Once done thought I'd shoot a target at 10 yds. The great thing about the model 41 is the barrels swap out in seconds, complete with sights, scope, etc.

Hey thanks BBG!

I saw the nice target you shot with your open sighted Beretta 92FS! What other pistols are you going to shoot? I enjoy seeing and hearing about what everyone is shooting these days.

Regards,
Nick

Thanks ,
I took my Ruger Mark IV and my 4Ē bull barreled Buckmark to the range yesterday, but the wind was so bad it was rocking my target . I was able to keep most of them in the black , but I was all over the place . Just couldnít get the timing down with the wind .
I really like the Beretta. I have a Colt ( Walther) 1911-22 Gold Cup I plan on giving a shot . I really like the bigger pistols .

3/25/2021 please update my best score from yesterday. Shot a 196 2X using the Mark II/III lite barrel w/dot sight full details to follow if this is my best for the month. Details about the same as posted below except I switched to CCI S.V.

Also shot a test target with my super lightweight Ruger Mark II/Mark III 4 1/2" lite barrel also with micro-dot. Shot a 175 0X but does not count as I was frugal using a previous target and taped up the holes with scotch tape. Since the Browning has better grips and weight I just assumed this lite Ruger would not come close! I need to play with this one next time.
