Redmans liner success

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around here for awhile and decided to join. I've gained a lot of valuable knowledge and information from the posts here and I wanted to say thank you in my first post of my project rifle. It started out as a .22lr Stevens model 15. It was given to me about 25 years ago in poor rusty condition. It would never shoot all that great due to the rusty bore until, I read about the capability to reline it. I decided to try the .17 caliber redmans liner and I'm happy with the results! Here is some pictures of it and the 50 yard groups I'm getting with it.

Well, I seem to be unable to post pictures.... do I have to make a certain number of posts before I'm allowed to post a picture? Other firearm forums I belong to have a paperclip symbol above to attach picture files to.

This site doesn't host pictures. You need to post them somewhere like imugr and then copy the appropriate link into your thread.
here's a thread that was done by one of the moderators explaining the process:

Don't feel bad, we were all there once.

Welcome to RFC, glad to have you with us.

Ah, thank you for the heads up. I'll try and get some pictures uploaded to that.

? I just checked and as I'm typing I see a paperclip above the text box that allows a photo to be attached. I've never had any problems attaching a photo and have never used a photo hosting site.

Probably related to number of posts, although I couldn't find the info in a quick search. Possibly someone else knows?

This site does allow attachments. You must go to the advanced reply to see the paper clip. There is no minimum post count, I attached pictures on my first post. I was a registered member for a couple weeks, though, before making my first post.

It’s right where my markup is on an iPone.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm in the advanced mobile view setup and still no paperclip symbol.... maybe I'll wait a few days? I'm on several other firearm forums and use my phone to post 90% of the time. Never had an issue before? Was hoping to share the target/rifle pictures lol.

I finally have the paperclip symbol to post pictures! My redmans liner seems to prefer the cci v-max rounds to the hornady.

Almost looks like an old Reinhardt Faijen stock on there. Nice save on the barrel!

I agree.

I also like those old stocks. A classic look for sure.

Thanks on the stock. I hand carved it out of cherrywood and black walnut on the ends. I still have the original stock but it's too short for me.
The liner seemed to settle in for accuracy after about 300 rounds. The first groups out of it were about one and a half inches. How do the .22 caliber liners perform accuracy wise?

They perform very well!!!

They perform very well!!!:t I have relined a few rifles with Redman liners and everyone, the 17's and the 22's have been great. Excellent accuracy, although I do seem to prefer my 17's, particularly for late season squirrel hunting. The LR get the nod when the leaves are on the trees.
God Bless, Frank.

Redman 17 liners ....

I have used two 17 cal Redman liners and am very happy with them.
One was a Ruger 10/22 factory sporter barrel. The other is my Chinese bolt action sporter. Both have very good accuracy
I agree with the other post about the liner getting better with some break in shots, a box of 50 at least. I’m getting an average of 1.25” at 100 yards after close to 100 rounds, and it seems to be getting even better with more cleaning and shooting. JB bore paste is what I use after a bench rest shooter showed me how to use it for really good results.
The Chinese sporter 22LR had good accuracy reviews so I bought a used one that had a Leupold 4X scope on it. I wanted the scope more than the rifle. Sadly the accuracy with original 22LR barrel was poor. Slugging the bore revealed tight spots and larger ID at the muzzle end, opposite of what should be. Now as a 17HM2 it is accurate and fun to shoot.
I used AccraGlass to install the liner and so far it has been successful.
Normally I don’t like to see rare older 22 rifles relined as it reduces the value but doing so can bring back accuracy in a pitted bore and save the original barrel’s sights and roll marks. However newer easy to afford and find guns have been fun with a Redman lines barrel in 17HM2.

Good looking stick. I have looked at buying a liner to put back, nice to see some people having success with Redman...I will check them out.
