Stock 142 OSB Thumbhole

Well, I built a benchrest stock (#140) from this exotic wood, thought I would try a thumbhole.
I’ve been rebuilding and tweeking my templates I use to cut the inletting. I figured using the OSB will be a better choice of wood, just in case my inlet tweeks aren’t what they should be.

Here's a couple more pictures. I had a chance to do some of the inletting and I got the walnut nose cap installed today.

I got a chance to do a lot of sanding this afternoon. Next thing will be the thumbhole, then more sanding.

Here's a few pictures of my work this morning. The thumbhole came out better than I expected. A few little chip outs, but not bad. When messing with this exotic wood, anything can happen.

I finished the stock today. It has a coat of Minwax natural stain and 3 coats of semigloss lacquer applied. Now, I just need to find a guy who needs a pair of exotic wood stocks.

Here are picturres of stocks 140 and 142 together. Must have been cut from the same piece of that exotic wood.

I love it. Do you do custom orders? An OSB sporter/carbine squirrel rifle in 17 Mach 2 would be incredible.

Iím glad to hear from you guys who like the exotic woods. You get thinking about it, it should be a very stable stock. Thereís probably as much waterproof glue as there is wood. The first one I did was just for fun and when I saw how cool it looked, I had to do another. Your not gonna get a nice smooth surface, like other wood stocks, but thatís not everything. Iím sure Iíll be doing another one sometime.
To answer your question, Iím only building 10/22 stocks, to sell.
Thanks for the nice comment.

Does the lacquer make for a final smooth finish?

My Mach 2 builds are 10/22s. See:

The stock is pretty smooth, but you get the imperfections of the different pieces of woods being glued together. Myself, I like the feel of the stock.

The link didnít show me any pictures

Ok, got it that time. I donít think the Ruger 10/22 stock will fit the 17. Isnít it based on the 22 magnum cartridge? That action is longer than the LR. The only stock I do is the 10/22.

the 17HMR is based off of the 22Mag, but he's playing with the Mach2 which is 22LR based

Thanks for the nice comment. Iíve never been that guy, who wants what everyone else has. To me, thatís boring. If youíve followed my builds the past few years, youíll know what Iím talking about.
Iím sure my stocks arenít near the quality as those coming out of a duplicator or cnc machine, but their original and one of a kind.
