Old vs. New CCI SV

Has anyone chronographed the old CCI SV (blue box) and the new CCI SV (blue box orange stripe)? I just broke into a case of the new box, and it feels like a touch more recoil, and slightly louder report, but it could be just me. The accuracy and point of impact was the same on both, so it shouldn't matter. Just curious.

Vista group (cci, federal) is in some financial trouble, the new packaging is probably just a cost savings.

Ive got a rifle that will shoot that stuff into 1/4 groups at 50 yards... I bought a brick of the new stuff and it is shooting into 1/4 groups at 50 yards also... so Id say the new stuff is the same

I think the stuff released in the last two years is the best they've made. To me, it seems like the newer the date the better. Just an intuitive opinion. I don't use a chrony. :)

I just got 2k rds in the new packaging, but haven't yet chrono'ed it. I will say that I have seen an increase in velocities since last year with the old blue box packaging. These are each 40-50 rd data sets taken with a Labradar while shooting groups, all from a Ruger Precision rimfire with 20" ER Shaw SS barrel:

12/2018: 1062 avg, 58.7 es, 12.9 sdev
4/2019: 1074 avg, 48.0 es, 10.0 sdev
8/2019: 1089 avg, 42.6 es, 9.4 sdev
9/2019: 1090 avg, 37.2 es, 8.8 sdev

All these were shot in fairly cool weather, with temps all within 10 degF., and comparable humidity.

Anyhow, I'll be testing the newest lot soon and will be curious to compare. it's pretty slight, but while the velocity has increased the consistency seems to have improved slightly.

Interest thing happened today. Blue box CCI Sv, usually I just pour 5 or 10 rounds out of the box and fill up the magazine. Today I scoot 10 rounds forward turn the box over and non come out . I look and they are all hung up in the tray . Had to push pop eac one out.

This is a hot topic for me and a couple of my friends.
None of are guns like the new box stuff compared to the old.
Two Ruger 77/22s one stock and one heavily modified. A CZ452, CZ457 American,and a 457 MTR
That's a problem for us because our club matches use the old box ammo (supplied by the club) for the monthly shoots, fun and cheep.
Normally we could pick up the same ammo at Walmart to practice with and lot to lot it was close enough for this kind of match. Now we can't find the old box anywhere locally.
My brother ordered 5 bricks from Brownells and it's all new box
I've called Champions Choice and I think they still have some old box left,I'll see in a few days.
Glad to see some people aren't having the same issues we are and hopefully it will improve on our end.
Thanks for the post.

The following data was obtained on 5-6-2019 fired from a pre-A Winchester model 52 with a 26" barrel. Chronograph set up 5 feet from muzzle, 65 deg. F. CCI S.V., product code #0032 purchased a case in April, 1994, lot #C21Z01. Average of 5 shots: Velocity = 1,006 FPS, ES = 17 FPS, Sd = 5 FPS. This particular lot has consistent produced excellent groups in a wide range of firearms (both rifle & pistol). I generally use it as a benchmark to compare any new ammo that I buy.

When I first saw the new packaging I called CCI Ammunition in Lewiston, ID and was told there is no difference in the product, just the packaging. You would think this would be mentioned on their website.

Thank you for that data. I did something similar with my setup (Labradar, different boxes, years, whatever) and got very similar results when shooting the entire box.

My data doesn't exactly match yours, but the lot-to-lot shows much of the same things with velocity, High-40's ES and similar SD.
