Worst .22lr ammo you shot

Whats the worst .22lr ammo you have shot and how bad was it?

This is my worst. 5 shot at 55 yards. Zero wind and 15 degrees Celsius. Shot from a rest.

Remington Golden Bullet :(

Yikes!
What were you shooting with?

Norwegianrimfire 02-14-2019 02:16 PM

An old Walther match rifle which usually produce groups well under 1/2 inch at the same distance.

I have about 1000 rounds of that leftover from the drought, but Iíve only used it for plinking cans at 25 yards with an old mark I Ruger.Im happy all those misses werenít my fault :D

I've not shot any that were that bad but the Remington golden bulk is pretty bad, about 3 moa at any given yardage.
My FV-SR doesn't care for most any Aguila. About 1.5 moa is the best it does. Have not put the first round of Winchester thru it.

No contest, hands down, some 'Russian' (white box?, iirc) back at the middle of the ammo hold-back/hold-up.
The term 'groups' is not appropriate, 'pattern' is.
And about 30% did not go off (flinch practice).
I remember thinking,'If we ever go into a shooting war with Russia I hope they are using this ammo'.

I had a box of 50 Thunderbolts from I don't know when. Well it must have been a bad batch because 1 in 2 went off on the first strike and 1 in 3 never went off so in my case if I did shoot them at paper a 5 shot group may only have 3 holes.

You picked the winner right there...Remington GoldenGlobules. And sharing that title is their companion ThunderTurds.

If that was a picture of my 5-shot group, it would have taken me at least 7 shots to put 5 holes in the target.

Three + years ago I started a little project of chronoing and recording the results of just about everything I can get my hands on. The result has been a large data base on a spreadsheet (which also includes data from other shooters) that gives me a pretty good idea of which tends to shoots better than others.

Early on I shot a lot of various Remington products and NONE of them were really any good. It didn't matter which. . . I would have many FTF's and FTE's no matter which of my guns I fired them in. ES's were often in the hundreds and that could easily be seen on the targets as well. So I find that Remington products are all at the bottom of the list and the "worst" of Remington's is Thunderbolt where I not only experienced plenty of FTF's, FTE's but also plenty of audible squibs. And then there was the problem I had with the Thunderbolts leaving really heavy deposits of lead in the barrels of my guns.

So, in my personal opinion, rounds like Remingon's Golden Bullet (like the buckets they sell) are only good for people who only care to her them go bang.

The worst I have ever shot is Aguila Supermaxmum Hyper Velocity. Like alot of people I purchased this during the shortage. It starts out shooting 6" high then its all over the place. Gave some to a couple friends to see how it shot in their guns and they said it was the worst ammo they ever used. One friend laughed and said he was going to test it in his Cooper but was afraid it would mess his barrel up.

That's weird, I have a Winchester 190 that loves Thunderbolt.

Itís a close choice, between the Remington Thunderbolts or the last 5-6 boxes of Winchester Super-X. Erratic performance and extremely dirty.

In recent times, it would have to be Armscor. In my rifles, even RGBs are better, which is pretty telling.

Back in the 1970s, I'd have to point a middle finger at two common, inexpensive loads, the old Remington Mohawk promo loads that came in a brown and yellow box, and Winchester Wildcats, which came in a white box with blue lettering, and a bobcat on it. Neither load was worth any time wasted dropping them down the tube of my old Marlin 60. Loose bullets that would twist and turn, or bend, if you looked at them funny. I never had that issue with Federals or CCI, so that's what I focused on buying.
Remingtons and Winchesters still sucketh, and in my current rifles, Federal ain't far behind. I guess the old machines are worn out.

This one,

Winchester "333" one blew up in my face, and, like an idiot I tried another; it separated as well. Threw a bunch of crud into the action, trigger group and my face.

I always wear eye protection luckily.
