Weaver 40/44 Series 6.5-20X44 for Silhouette?

I am just getting into Silhouette and I am trying to get good quality equipment on a budget. I have a CZ452 Lux with a Leupold 3x9 scope. I want to upgrade my scope but most of the good options I have seen suggested are $350 + if you can find a bargain and much more than that if you pay retail.

I just saw the Weaver 40/44 Series 6.5-20X44 at around $200 and it looks pretty good. What is the consensus judgement?

My main concern as a beginner is dealing with the adjustments of the crosshairs for the various ranges. My Leupold does not have target turrets and the "coin" adjustment marks are limited. The Weaver looks to have a more friendly turret. Obviously repeatability is an absolute requirement. How does the Weaver perform?

Thanks,

Dan

Decent scope for the money FWIW. I have the Intensity Optics version of that scope. Weaver, Intensity Optics and Simmons are all Federal/ATK product lines. Intensity has since been closed down.

The 40/44 is one of Weaver's cheaper models. It's better than the bottom of the line Kaspa, I'm not sure by how much. I don't think you'll be very happy with the glass on the 40/44 compared to the Leupold your already using. One of the better budget scopes that IMO is far better than its price is the Vortex Crossfire II 6-18. Nice and clear even at 18 and the AO goes down below 10 yards. You can usually find them for right around $200 (less if you shop around). Plus you get the VIP warranty with the Vortex.

There aren't really any "good" options for Silhouette on the market right now and definitely not in your budget range.

How much magnification do you want/need? The Weaver V-16 and V-24 scopes both have good glass, excellent elevation/windage mechanics, and spot-on AO. But each has a few negatives that make neither perfect for Silhouette...

V-16 has 1/4 MOA adjustments (good for what we do) but the reticle choices aren't the best for Silhouette.

V-24 has 1/8 MOA adjustments (more than one revolution on the way up to Rams) but their "Varminter" fine-duplex reticle is a decent option for Silhouette.

That being said, I have a V-16 that I had sent in to Weaver some years back and had them put in the Varminter reticle so I could get the best of both worlds, albeit at 16X max magnification.

I now shoot at 24X to 30X on my rifles so the scope sits idle. I would be willing to sell it to you for under the $350 budget. Send me a PM/email if you're interested and we can work it out.

Check here and might find a nice AO scope for Silhouette. Manufactures are going to SIDE focus knob adjustment.

I have been using Weaver KT-15's. It is a straight 15x that will focus down to 10m. They are out of production but show up on ebay so I suggest watching ebay for one. Generally they go for between $100-$200. Mine have been very reliable, clear. Duplex reticle.

I have 3 of them, 2 with the duplex reticle and one with the EB-X reticle which is really nice. Excellent glass and they have held up very well to heavier recoil hunting rifles. I can definitely recommend that model.

I know this is an old thread butr when you refer to the Weaver V-16 and V-24 scopes, is that the same as the Weaver Classic V-Series scopes?

That is correct.
