Izhmash cm2 hammer forged barrel
I did a search and nothing. Seems someone would have mentioned these. My wife's cm2 barrel resembles a carbon fiber pattern, but all I've seen on line have smooth blued barrels. She gets asked frequently if its carbon fiber. I was told it has 50,000 hammered blows to manufacture, but I lost count at 48,7xx. Can ya give me any info? Thanks

Yes, they are hammer forged. Not sure how many times they smack it.

I was wondering if wife's gun was last to be brought in? Is this the way they are finished now ?Thanks

Well I'm not finding any info on wife's gun. Can't find pics of others with same finish. It's rare when RFC is stumped.

I have two...

Russian American is the importer, same hammer marks.

They don't show well enough in the pics

So Brother Cow54; were these the last to come in? Are these current production? Thanks for any info.

I also have a pair of the CM-2 rifles that I bought new in 2008; the so-called full size "Adult" model and the shorter "Cadet".

Both have the hammer forged barrels and the swirl pattern can be seen up close but the finish is a heavy epoxy which makes it less obvious. The finish, BTW, is extremely durable and rust resistant.

Yesterday I shot a 100 yard .22 rimfire benchrest match using an old Vostock CM-2 made in the USSR. Same rifle as the newer Izmash CM-2. I finished second to a Winchester 52B shot by a man who reads the wind extremely well. I beat out several Anschutz and custom rifles.

Both mine were on a closeout from Centerfire Systems (?) 8-02-13 and 11-21-13. I haven't any new ones since then.

Brother doubs; Does yours have the hammer marks on barrel exterior? Thanks.

Both my Adult & Cadet have the same carbon fiber look as you describe & are the same as Cow54's. They were both closeouts from Centerfire.

They do, although the heavy enamel finish makes the marks seem more shallow than they actually are.

One of mine came from MT Guns directly and the other from R&R Arms in MN.

It appears this is the current (since 2008) finish. Wonder why nobody from Russia is on RFC. Would be a big help.

Hammer-forged barrels
My Izhmash Ural-6-2, and Record-1-308's all have hammer-forged barrels. The 6-2 was made about 1998. This is the way good barrels are made. The company just doesn't polish off the marks left by the forging. My old third generation CM-2 also had such a barrel. They are not new; just standard.

Brother Stephen; I realize they have had hammer forged barrels for several decades and multiple name changes but i was interested in the hammer marked exterior finish, and when that started. Does yours have these marks? Thanks for all the help.

Speaking of Russian goods:

Mid-60s today, good day for the range. . :)

I took the CM-2 Adult (the bottom one in the pic)

5 shots at 50 yds, with iron sights. .

I'm pleased...
