Which of these rifles would you reccomend?

My first post here after many years of lurking, reading and learning.

Been without a semi auto 22 for too long and want a 10/22 type rifle.

Mainly for plinking and occasional hunting or varmint control. Not looking for a bench gun. Would like to keep the weight down within reason.

I looked at buying all the parts and putting one together but the price of my list kept getting too high.

I have narrowed my search down to two options

Ruger Competition model From Bud's for $663 Shipped

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...2flam+16%22+tb

Tactical Innovations Elite22 for right around $607 shipped (they estimated $45 shipping and insurance)

https://www.tacticalinc.com/catalog/product/08554

Which one would you pick?

Open to other options but I am maxed out on price with these two.

Thanks!

LVT and a trip to CPC for a full work over should come out just under the prices you've posted...

Thanks for the input.

With barrel threading it would be about the same price.

Would it be a better set up?

After CPC, a much better set up. The LVT is an awesome barrel, heavy taper, so the benefits of heavy barrel but no front weight issues. The only issue you might have is if you are a cheek welder, the stocks comb might not be high enough.

For that? Factory receiver from SAP outfitters, BX trigger from whoever has it the cheapest, Hogue thumbhole stock (or the standard if you want a hair less weight), a factory takeoff bolt from Ebay, and a Tactical Solutions barrel of whatever color you want from whoever sells it the cheapest. May need a V-block and screws, will need cross pins, a $10 scope rail, and a takedown screw. Done. Slightly sub-5lb gun before optics that is not a bench gun, but will easily outshoot a stock gun all day.

Around $500-550 if all parts bought from the right sources.

(I'm teetering this whole thing towards the "lightweight" side of things as well)

Because the big thing here is - "not a bench rifle". If 3/8" group at 25yds is good for you, then that barrel equation opens up vastly. When these guys start talking about what is the best barrel, they are splitting hairs. A factory gun works just fine for plinking/hunting all day, and higher end stuff becomes overkill. CPC rework is great, but its also in line with single hole accuracy off of bags. If you aren't trying to pile 5 shots into the exact same hole (not a jagged hole, the same hole), then you don't have to break the bank on the gun to get what you want.

And to add a little weight and still have a great gun, a Green Mountain sporter barrel would do the trick all day, and cost less. Any of these options are likely better than a factory barrel.

Basically, you can build a gun that is better than anything Ruger puts out from the factory for less.

I built the bottom gun for my brother in law a year and a half ago for around $500. Granted I used a bolt and charging handle that I already had on hand, but the mag release lever and compensator are also figured into the cost. Its a steel challenge gun, though would serve in basically any other use as well. (the crappy Simmons red-dot on it is just something I have laying around that basically gets used for testing new builds that don't have any optic on them yet)

LVT + BX trigger + Vortex 2X7 Diamondback = 600 bucks and it do everything you want to do and more. For your stated purposes more isn't better. It's overkill.

Thanks for all the ideas, I will spend some time looking at all of them.
