Bullpup Project - DONE...for now
Why not a bullpup 10/22? In CA, OAL can be as short as 26", no mag lock is needed (for now) and 22lr is still cheaper than .223 if you can find it. I was originally gonna go with the airsoft P90 conversion but I wanted to try something a little different. I took my Ruger's barreled action out of the Archangel stock, dug out the original birch stock and other stuff from the parts bin and started cutting!
I already made the cuts here. I also narrowed down the stock to give it flat sides. More on that later. Also some parts and the buttplate was salvaged from a broken skateboard!
I bent up some 3/16 rod and used the stock as a very rough template. This should be plenty strong.
Now the tricky part, routing the trigger linkage? I wanted to run it on bottom so that it could be easily removed when the rifle needed cleaning. I also figured in would be way easier to get the channels milled out down there.
Now I don't own a mill. I don't even own a router. But I do have a trusty ol' Dremmel! I rigged up (I do mean rigged) a jig for holding the stock in place with a fence and also mounted the Dremmel onto a sliding fixture. Measure 100 times and cut a few!
And it fits!
Here is how it fits together. I also used some bearing cartridges around a roll pin on the linkage to help smooth out the pull.
This is the result of about a months work. I'll keep updating this thread.
***Pistol Grip Mounting Done 6/10***
The Yugo grip I picked up came with a bolt that was too short to fit through the stock. I was walking around in my local hardware chain store and found a 1/4-20x4.5" bolt with a hex head and a U-nut that fit it. I went home and set up the bolt in my "lathe" (cordless drill and dremmel) and rounded and slotted the head to match up the Yugo bolt. I also trimmed the U-nut
I made a guide to help me get the correct angle for the grip bolt. Got me pretty close. I wish i had a drill press.
I put the stock back into my Dremmel jig and milled out the area under the barrel channel where the U-nut would sit. Here's how it came out.
The U-nut fits perfectly
** Trigger Guard Done 6/11 **
I had two take off Saiga sporter trigger guards to mess around with. I didn't want the guard to be as big and square as the Saiga guards so I chopped and bent one around until I found a shape and size I liked.
The back hooks over the top of the pistol grip.
A small screw will hold the front in place.
Waiting on some Kydex. I'll use it for the stock cover.
