Anyone with experience with a Tracker 22 Mag Taurus?

I've been seriously considering getting a 22 mag (and therefore 22 LR) revolver for a while. I stumbled across a Tracker 99x model (blued, 6.5" barrel, 9 round) and I was surprised I liked it so much, let alone the price. So that got me to thinking, and I've been looking around ever since but there seems to be pretty polarizing opinions of Taurus's so I thought I ask if anyone has direct experience with the Tracker series, especially the 970-990 series Taurus 22 Magnum/LR rifle pistols? Issues, concerns, things to consider, etc.?

Bonus points for pictures!

Thanks and Happy Shooting!

I've got the 970 in 22LR with 6.5 inch barrel. So far it's held up for the last 3 years. I carry mine daily on the trap line from Nov to Feb and use it for a dispatch gun. Before the 970 I carried a 94 for about 6 years same duty.

Trackers

I have one of the older Trackers in 22 long rifle that I have had for years. It is as accurate as my Smiths and Rugers. Has never given any problems with several thousand rounds through it. The barrel cylinder gap is tight at between .002 and .003, so I clean the gun more often than the Smiths. To me the tight gap is a good thing, something I expect on my custom revolvers. The Tracker has a 4 X scope, and takes small game out past 50 yards as easy as a rifle with a good rest. A good friend borrowed it to squirrel hunt with and swears he is going to keep it. I check every gun regardless of who builds it before I buy. I own several Taurus Trackers in different calibers rimfire and centerfire. A Tracker in 17 HMR is one of my favorite small game revolvers. It has a 2 X 8 Weaver scope and has been used on crows at just over 100 yards. Groups better than my Ruger revolvers in the same caliber.

Taurus 17C

Here is a cousin of the Tracker, the 17C. Medium frame, non ribbed barrel, in .17 HMR, 5 inch barrel and rock solid. It has a very heavy trigger in DA, SA is quite light and accurate.

Thanks for the replies.

A 992 is on my list, it's just a matter of timing and I'll be keeping an eye out. I would love to get the 4" 992 version but I've never seen them besides on Taurus's website.

I have 4 Taurus rim fires and love them all.

4" Stainless M94 - bought used, my 1st Taurus

Tracker 17 6.5" bought used (17HMR) I affectionately call it the rim fire Dirty Harry would own. I have scoped it and hunt with it.

Trackers 970 and 971 bought new with in a month of each other. The 970 is still NIB and the 971 I have around 100+ rounds through. It is a good shooter. I am planning on scoping the 970 for squirrel season this year.

I also have a M66 7 shot 357, a PT618 .380 and a PT870 .40SW

I have owned 8 Tauri in all. The one that got away was a pink PT132 Mil Pro and the ONLY reason I sold it was my buddy begged me to sell it to him for his wife. That .32ACP was a tack driver.

I also one SW, Walther, Beretta (no Rugers yet)

I have yet to buy a bad Taurus, new or used.

They are currently not offering the 4" in the 992 but do offer it in the 990 & 991. I would like a 990 4" myself.

I have the 991 in 4" barrel. The Tracker "k" frame size makes it much more accurate than the 941 which i have had numerous from snubby to 5" barrels, including the 3" barrel model that is some what rare.

I have a Tracker in 44mag ... love it. Also, had 2 Taurus 941's in 22mag, 9-shot. I gave one to son; it had to go to Taurus for fixing ... is ok, now. Other is my wife's main shooter.

Just a heads up. There is a brand new 992 Stainless 4" at a gun shop in Florida. Price is $485.
