My wife's 2015 Jeep Cherokee is our main "going somewhere" vehicle. I like my 1999 Chevy Silverado, 5.3 V8, 133,000 miles but it's not great on gas mileage so it usually stays home except for hauling jobs.

2017 Aluminum body F250 Diesel. 440HP, 925 ft. lbs. of torque. Possibly the most inefficient short errand vehicle around, but she's my baby.

That's mine out on the Nevada ground squirrel shoot-a-thon last weekend. More fun than I deserve.

I had a Volkswagen Passat TDI with about 75,000 miles that they bought back for over $20,000. I bought a slightly used 2016 Prius and had money left over. Since VW paid for it I figure that it is a Volkswagen Prius.

The Passat was a great car, but for over $20,000, with 75,000 miles, it wasn't that great.

Good luck with our Dodges....'96 3500 still running...300K, our 2003 1500, small v8, auto gave up the ghost at 320K. The aggravating part is everything worked fine, AC, glass and body good.....something in the engine let go. Sold it for $500. It too was worked hard...very hard. Good trucks.....should hold you awhile. 1917

I've heard a lot of positive stuff about the Passat TDi being worlds better than the Prius, but very few people have actually owned both. What's your opinion of how the two compare?

My wife and I owned a Passat TDI for 10 years. Great car, great engine. I don't know why Toyota et al insist on screwing around with inefficient gasoline engines. All that expensive technology to make a gas engine roughly equivalent to a diesel. If they made a diesel-electric hybrid, then they'd have something. I'd be the first in line to buy one, and I'd be there even quicker if the car wasn't as ugly as a Prius!

With all that said, I will never own another VW/Audi product. Electrical gremlins out the wazoo! At least the Japanese know how to make reliable electronics...

As for every day drivers, 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300SD, 283K miles:

Either the WR

Or a '08 Dodge Magnum... Every so often I have the urge to get something smaller/easier on gas. Then I remember, it's paid for and I'd miss the trunk space...

I just recently picked up a 2013 Chevy 2500 HD extended cab 4x4 with the 5.3 v8 . Bought from the original owner with only 33k on it . He was an elderly gentleman and the truck is like new and was well taken care of .

I use a pickup nearly every day for some type of hauling and work .

My wife drives a 2007 Chevy Trail Blazer with 65k still in nice shape . If the weather is bad or the roads are muddy she has no problem taking my pickup if I am not using it . We put 312k on the last Chevy pickup that I just sold to the local transmission guy cheap in need of a trans rebuild . That truck paid for itself 10 times over with the use we got out of it .

Mitsubishi Lancer. I wanted a 100% Japanese made car for reliability and a long service life, and a great warranty. I wanted something the size of a Honda Accord, but with the price lower than a Civic or Nissan Sentra. So I got this Lancer. It was $16000 for the car, brand new, but not counting tax, tag, dealer prep fees, and all those other extra charges. It's got 90,000 miles and so far, so good. Gets 37 mph highway if I keep the speed around 60 or 63 mph.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This thing keeps on going. Easy and cheap to work on. 3rd one I have had, the first two I lifted and put bigger tires on and they sold shortly after that cause people wanted them. All bought used with 110,000 on the lowest mileage one. The one I Have now, my mom bought and drove for about 5 years and then I got it from her with 140,000 miles on it.
