As a new barrel, "seasons" or goes through its initial wear-in & smoothing, it will reach a plateau where nothing really changes for thousands of rounds. Then, as the erosion progresses at the front edge of the chamber, the dreaded black ring starts to form more quickly making for frequent cleaning necessary. The time spent with some JB bore compound cleaning the chamber does pay off in slowing ring formation & erosion. I generally do a through chamber clean with JB every 6-700 rounds, and use the Gunsmither chamber brush/swab after each range session. I use only 2 types of ammo, both C.C.I. SV & Velocitor, both seem fairly clean. I ended up with Kidd bolts in all my 1022's as I found the measured headspace in the factory bolts somewhat inconsistant, at least in the three I own.

Are the slower squirrels easier to hit?
