My newly acquired 1922 M2, SN#59XX has barrel date of 5/'37. Looks like arsenal rework, very clean. Any way to determine original build date?

Nice find on your part. Is the bolt have the adjustable head space screw? Or is the head space screw not there? The 1st 4000 or so 1922 M2 bolts did not have the adjustable head space screw.
Pictures would be nice.

My NRA Sales variation M2 #6478 has a barrel date of 10-38, my issue variation M2 #1054 has a barrel date of 6-37, I have never been able to see much correlation between barrel dates and build dates on the M2 Rifles. Both of these rifles have the original black parkerizing of the 1930's and I am convinced that neither has been through rebuild. It would be helpful to have the complete serial number and the exact marking on the receiver ring. It could be Model of 1922MII, M1922M11, or CAL .22 M2. The nomenclature 1922M2 was used only for a short period in the early years of M2 rifle production. AS MK111 said, pictures would be nice.

That jibes with my early M2.
SN 1810, marked "M2", no headspace adjustment, barrel date 1-33

The approximate build date was 1938 according to my references. Production started in 1933 with no rifles built in 1937 and production ceasing 1942 with a total of 11,335 manufactured.

Regards, Joe K.
