He is trying to argue with me that it is a 4.5" barrel gun, and he is adamant it is the factory box...

its conceivable that it was done at the factory. its inconceivable that a tape measure from breach to muzzle would say 6 inches.

He's not smart enough to measure the correct length, he's likely measuring the muzzle...

ETA finally convinced him...

Recently one was listed as a Target model, but it was standard model with adjustable sights like my two and then another was listed 6" and it was a 4" so I quit looking at prices. I was trying to get a value of my two above. One I bought NIB and other used as I was thinking at time about selling one at the time, but changed my mind.

Finally got the test mule to the range yesterday, trigger was really nice.

I was cleaning my 2006 and decided to look at owners manual after all these years and noticed it says besides two barrel lengths the gun only comes in two versions Field model with fixed sights and Target model with adjustable sights. I had been of the impression from someone here that there were three, Field with fixed sights and adjustable as option, with Target model adjustable sights that were different from those used on Field model. Guess he was wrong according to my owners manual and I still have the original box will dig it out of storage and see what it has on the tag tonight.

My guess like S&W is well known to do, they did some fancy work on some of the standard 2206 Target models as seen here and could have even used a different rear adjustable sight on those Target models. Over the years I've learned that S&W is always doing things not listed or advertised, and it has always bugged the crap out of me.

The 2206 had 2 as you described, however the fixed sights are metal 2 dot like the 2213/2214

The 2206TGT had Millet adjustable sights.

The 422/622 had 2 also, fixed plastic and target.

The 2213/2214 had fixed metal 2 dot.

I have a slide, guy I bought it from claims it came from S+W, it is supposedly NOS. It is a blued, fixed sight slide, with a Novak sight installed on it. It came in the factory S+W oil paper, but who knows if the story is legit.

Most likely it is a S&W as like I said you never know about S&W and oddball stuff they would do, such as stop production on a gun then a month later build a few more from parts or just sell parts to vendors and they build a few guns. Colt was also bad about doing that same thing,

Speaking of variations/oddities.

Was trying to snag a 622 on GB. It was late production, Houlton, Maine. Had the wood grained plastic grips, and the SN was on the right side, instead of the left side like other 622's except the VR. And it appears it is laser etched like the VR.

It went for more than I was willing to pay for an oddity though.
