Just spent 4 hours smacking ground squirrels for a farmer. Had my shooting bench tripod setup in the back of my pickup and went trough just over two boxes of shells. I counted 75 hits and no crawl offs. Range was mainly 25yrds to 125 with just a couple out to 225. My problem with shooting that far is I tend to shoot high cause this shoots so flat. Good problem to have. Had another land owner a half mile down the road stop and ask me to clear out his pasture for him. Said they were so thick he runs over them with his side by side going thew it. I checking it out and it's 65 acres of pure shooting heaven. You could use a sling shot and get half of them. Going to start on it next weekend. Going to be a great summer. Going to order a better scope and more ammo.

Sounds like something I'd love to do. Growing up in Virginia, my best day was killing 11 groundhogs, between 2 farms and walking about 3 miles. I got to shoot prairie dogs while on a mule deer hunt several years ago and although it was cold and they weren't particularly cooperative, was still able to kill over 100 shooting for an hour or so each day.

I can't imagine how much fun one could have with several rimfires in a good field...

Oh just your standard blood and guts kinda turned inside out looking gopher. The good ol' WSM just flat turns them inside out. I'll take a picture of my setup next weekend though.

Eric Mayer has a wonderful video of what the Bmag does to ground squirrels. At the 2:27 mark of the video is where the carnage begins.

No transaction at all. I get to shoot and he gets better land. Works for me. I'm just glad to get permission. Allot of land owners won't let people in due to out of the state people coming in for oil field work and treating local land owners like crap.

Sounds like an ideal set-up; everyone wins. I have a good deal in NE Kansas shooting p-dogs, do not have a 17WSM. I have an Anschutz 17HMR that really shoots. I had always planned to buy a 17WSM, but never got around to it. What rifle do you have?

I have a Savage BMAG SS HB I bedded into a Boyds Rimfire Hunter stock and as of now I have a Simmons Predator Quest 4.5-18. Planning on switching to a Mueller Target Dot or Sightron STAC.
