This is an auction I was informed of this morning. Not rimfires, but thought maybe someone would be interested.

Yup, Winchester during the 1980's ran a large amount of commemorative firearms, limited short runs of rifles and carbines celebrating a person, country or historical event. I passed on a Canadian Centennial 26" rifle I sort regret now, it had been shot and carried a bit and the price was very tempting ($275). I wonder what that sells for now.

Nice collection of Winchester levers, waaaay above my pay grade though.

That's a nice set to be sure..... BUT the Commemorative rifles have not done well in terms of value. Serious collectors have never taken them... well, seriously. Value has not increased as much as many hoped.

Six years ago I bought an Oliver F. Winchester Commemorative 1894 in .38-55. Long octagon barrel and gold plated receiver. A bit of the gold had flaked off even though it was NIB. I bought it for a shooter and paid $450. Commemorative or not, it's still a Winchester '94 in a desirable caliber and almost any '94 Winchester is worth $450. It's just not a collector piece and I'm OK with that.

My other Commemorative is an 1895 Teddy Roosevelt Winchester chambered in his "Big Medicine" .405 Winchester cartridge. It's a thumper... on both ends! I doubt that I'll ever get back what I paid but, again, I bought it to shoot and not to collect.
