Need an e-mail provider

Log in to see fewer ads
Verizon just notified me that they will no longer be providing e-mail service (I use them for my phone and DSL).

I'm not much a computer guy and don't know where to turn. Friends have recommended GMail but I'm not a Google fan and would prefer not to use their service.

Are there any good choices for a Mac user, or is GMail the best bet?

Thanks for any advice,
Bob

That's hard to swallow. I'm reading up on Apple's iCloud Mail right now. Looks like a good choice....

Yeah, Gmail is great. I use it along with my corporate email.

I've been using Gmail for a long time but I would think any one would work just as well.

I started with hotmail and have never found any reason to change. I doubt that you will have privacy with any e-mail provider you find.

Hotmail is now outlook.com, another good one is yahoo's e-mail. I still have a $15 a month dial-up account at a local ISP, just for the e-mail address....

That's the caveat of using your internet provider's webmail. They can always stop their services for any reason. And when you switch provider, you also stop using their webmail.

I have been using yahoomail and hotmail since email spawned into existence....they are great. I also use gmail but I prefer the other two. I don't like the interface of gmail...

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for about 20 yrs now. It is an open source program that has a variety of privacy functions such as encryption. It is free to users but encourages donations. I am very happy with it and have had no issues. Just my 2c.

Run my own mail server for my domains hosted on a linode.com VPS

Requires some skill, but I have total 100% control.
