Well...lightning struck again. During my morning ebay check, I saw this beauty, and couldn't pass it up. It'll make a perfect stock for a "sleeper" build I want to do for my son...factory appearing, but a good shooter. He's only 15 months old right now, so I've got some time to gather the parts

And for the time being, I'm done...you guys won't have to worry about bidding competition from me any time soon. I'll just be posting links here to nice ones I find.

Danv,

I didn't bid on the stock because I couldn't get a clear idea what Georgia was doing. Looked to me like he/she was still bidding so I held off. It went for just about what I thought it would.

Langsford,

Where did you find that beauty? I never saw that one and looked a lot.
Very, very nice. Is it maple ?

Good find my man, you do know where the secret spots are at. Now that you are out for a while, clue me in before Iron gets back!!!!

That was a simple one, searched "10/22 stock", changed the results to newly listed and that was one of the latest auctions posted. It said walnut colored birch, but it has some of the horizontal lines that remind me of maple. It's hard to tell by the pictures though, I'll know more once it arrives.

That aint birch!!!!!! It could be beech . My suspicions lean me toward maple or walnut.

I have been doing the search the way you mentioned the other day exactly. Check a couple times a day. But did not see that beauty.

Good find my friend. Let me know what it is when you find out. But it aint birch!\

I don't think it's birch.

I'm anxious to see what type of wood it is, I've got a few nice factory walnuts, a few nice factory birches, no maples though...I'd love to be surprised by this being one.

And speaking of maple, my tiger maple stock showed up from Mark aka beever156 today, and all I can say is wow. The stripes on this thing are intense, every inch of the stock is covered from head to toe. I'm very anxious to get my magic maple stain and get this build underway. Now I just need to find a good used donor rifle or a good deal on a new one. Thinking black receiver, 20" stainless kidd barrel and a nice silver scope to match.

That is a beauty Langford. When you put the magic stain on it, be sure to wipe it with alcohol before you hang it. If you don't it will get darker by the hour. You can always come back with the stain again if it isn't dark enough.

I'll try to post a few pics of my latest maple when I find time.

be well,

billy

Something else to consider. The True Oil will make it darker than you may think. So what I do is to sand inside the barrel channel, apply stain, let it dry, then add some true oil. That will show you what you will wind up with.

There is a walnut with pretty nice grain. It's just listed as a 1975 walnut. I don't think it's worth his asking price but it is nice.

Here is a very nice looking striped walnut...current bid is $0.01, but it's showing 4 bids...so I have to assume the current bidder has upped his max bid a handful of times so far. But that really doesn't make sense since the reserve price hasn't been reached yet...I thought all bids are shown??? And I thought ebay did away with reserve prices? Hmm..confused now, but somebody still may be able to snag this stock for a good price.
