Hornady critical defense 45 grain on game?

Have never seen this ammo in Australia until just recently , curious how it performs on rabbits and foxes?
It has a large hollow point but velocity would be about 1700 fps.?
Do they expand well?
Thanks in advance!

It was developed for big game, of the 2-legged variety, out of short [pistol-length] barrels. So while it will see a velocity boost from a rifle-length barrel, the disparity won't be as great as traditional 22WMR ammo [that was designed for firing from rifles.]

I kind of suspect that for smaller game like rabbits & foxes, you're better off with a lighter-bulleted high velocity round.

It does fine on feral hogs I have shot. Nothing huge but it did quite a bit of damage with a neck shot.

I've seen a couple of posters on Predator Master forums who like the Hornady 45g CD as their favorite .22 mag round for coyotes.

It's my load of choice for coyote hunting with the WMR. I've taken 3 so far with them, all one shot kills. Nearest was shot at about 30 yards, furthest was about 75. all 3 were in the 25-35 pound range for size. Two were boiler room shots and 1 head shot. I was able to recover one bullet, yote was taken coming in at about a 45 degree angle, bullet hit just inside the near shoulder and was stuck in the next to last rib on the far side.
The CDs will work just fine if you put the bullet in the right spot.
