Same here. I hadn't heard of Universal Mania, but took a chance and it arrived
today. Reversed the channel with no problems and laid my Kidd lightweight
barrel in (receiver being massaged by Brimstone). Looks good.

New guy here with some observations

Hi,

New here but this thread was helpful regarding the Magpul Hunter X22 stock.

I just acquired my first 10/22 (tactical model) that came preinstalled from the PO in the X22. It also came to me filthy although shot very little.

What I found worked best instead of adding duct tape or some other material at the rear, which only serves to raise the tip of the barrel so that it doesn't contact the forend rib, thereby free floating it and introducing potential issues contrary to Rugers design (depending on model), was to take down the bedding block area at the screw mount just a bit as it sits proud and causes that rear receiver slop. After removing the reversible barrel guide, I used a sharp chisel perpendicular to work the outer ribs lower, then smooth the area by scraping with the chisel perpendicular to the receiver retaining screw boss. Careful you don't take too much material off and check the fit often.

I have yet to get it to the range to test this theory, but will try to ETA if I do anytime soon.

Cheers.

Brutal Welcome to The Forum I've had great luck with the Magpul stock despite all the problems everybody's having. I used a Kidd receiver and the barrel was naturally free floating in the channel even with the groove and sits perfectly aligned parallel with the forearm most importantly the rifle shoots extremely accurately. I'd be surprised if you didn't like this stock

Your not alone.. I have THREE now not a single problem issue or concern. Unless great ergonomics, fair price and nice stock are a problem.

Mounting screw too long?

I was having accuracy issues on my TacSol x-ring that came with the Magpul stock. Found that the stock mounting screw was a hair too long and was pushing against the bottom of the barrel. Filed a bit off the top of the screw and no more issues!

I'm new to 10/22's and found a stainless target model online for just over $200. The hitch was that it came with a pink houge stock. My x22 arrived before the gun. What a great shooter. It did rock in the stock, so I applied a couple layers of duct tape at the rear of the action. Worked like a charm.
