should i switch barrel or keep practicing?

All,

I have a new charger and love it. it's the wood stock model with the threaded blued barrel. While the accuracy ain't bad, it's not what i hoped for..

I haven't spent a ton of time with it, but am getting 5 shot groups around 3/4" at 25yds. how does this compare to what those of you with experience would expect from a new charger? I don't 100% have the feel for it yet. I've done some trigger mods and installed volquartsen hammer. trigger pull is around 3.25#'s which is nice. optic is a 3x prism scope...

More practice (obviously that never hurts) or is this about what i should expect? Tried everything from CCI minimags, to fed automatch to sk std+ and wolf match extra.

don't mind spending money on new barrel, but hoping to get more accuracy out of it like it is.. not sure if i'm near max ?

any thoughts appreciated.

That was about the same as mine when I first bought it. I went with a Kidd match barrel and get 3/4" groups at 50 yds with CCI st. Vel.

Before you go for a new barrel, try some good quality ammo and see how it does.

Ammo will surely make a difference. But I have never regretted switching my Ruger barrel to a Kidd.

Throw a rifle scope on it to test accuracy. You will be quite surprised.

Kidd

I put a Kidd barrel on my charger and the difference in accuracy was incredible. I can shoot under 1/2" groups at fifty yards. It is the best upgrade you can make. I think I paid 95.00 for the Kidd barrel. I guess it all depends on what accuracy you are getting now.

I would first check the head spacing on the bolt. I built up a 10/22 and changed the barrel and stock and then the trigger group was sent out and rebuilt. After all this accuracy was not what it should have been. I then replaced the bolt and charging system with a Kidd and bang CCI Mini Mags from a rest gives 5/8' to 3/4" with Tech Sights apperature sights at 50 yards resting.

Try the Norma TAC-22; I have found .22's that didn't do exceptionally well with Wolf (and HV/bulk of course), to occasionally do well with the Norma/RWS line, which isn't related to the brands you appear to have tried.
And of course CCI SV, which is another different line as well.

Edit: is your 3x prism scope parallax-independent with distance?
Not familiar with those designs, but the optics that I use start to have parallax issues at shorter distances (such as your 25 yds) if I haven't adjusted them for that application.
